Gina M. Biegel, LMFT, is a psychotherapist, researcher, speaker, and author in the San Francisco Bay Area who specializes in mindfulness-based work with adolescents. She is founder of Stressed Teens, which has been offering mindfulness-based stress reduction for teens (MBSR-T) to adolescents, families, schools, professionals, and the community for over a decade. She created MBSR-T to help teens in a large HMO’s outpatient department of child and adolescent psychiatry who were not receiving relief or amelioration of their physical and psychological symptoms with the use of a multitude of other evidence-based practices. She is an expert and pioneer in bringing mindfulness-based approaches to youth. She is author of Be Mindful Card Deck for Teens. She also has a mindfulness practice audio CD, Mindfulness for Teens, to complement the MBSR-T program. She provides worldwide, intensive ten-week online trainings, and works with teens and families individually and in groups. Her work has been featured on CNN, Reuters, and in The New York Times. Toby Hemenway was the author of the first major North American book on permaculture, Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture, as well as The Permaculture City. After obtaining a degree in biology from Tufts University, Toby worked for many years as a researcher in genetics and immunology, first in academic laboratories at Harvard and the University of Washington in Seattle, and then at Immunex, a major medical biotech company. At about the time he was growing dissatisfied with the direction biotechnology was taking, he discovered permaculture, a design approach based on ecological principles that creates sustainable landscapes, homes, and workplaces. A career change followed, and Toby and his wife spent ten years creating a rural permaculture site in southern Oregon. He was associate editor of Permaculture Activist, a journal of ecological design and sustainable culture, from 1999 to 2004. He taught permaculture and consulted and lectured on ecological design throughout the country, and his writing appeared in magazines such as Whole Earth Review, Natural Home, and Kitchen Gardener. Schritt für Schritt legt der erfahrene Autor die Prinzipien der Permakultur dar: Gärtnern im Einklang mit den Prinzipien, welche die Natur seit Jahmillionen anwendet. Das Buch ist daneben prallvoll mit praktischen und konkreten Vorschlägen, wie ein Hausgarten unter verschiedenen klimatischen Voraussetzungen erfolgreich zu gestalten, zu bepflanzen und zu bewirtschaften ist. Je naturnaher, umso weniger Arbeit für die Gärtnerin und den Gärtner - das ist ein angenehmer Nebeneffekt der Permakultur.

Die 2.Auflage dieses Klassikers zur Permakultur besticht vor allem durch neue Frabfotos und die Tatsache, dass sich das Buch expliziter an Gartenbesitzer im städitschen Bereich wendet (ganz neues Kapitel!).Ich habe vor Jahren die erste Auflage gelesen (ausgeborgt in Bibliothek) und war sehr beeindruckt von der Art und Weise, wie Hememway zum Umdenke über das was Gärtnern bedeutet anregt. Die neue Ausgabe hat mich überzeugt, das Buch doch noch selbst zu kaufen und ich bin sehr zufrieden.Es handelt sich nicht um das klassische Gartenbuch mit grundlegenden Tipps und ewigen Listen mit Pflanzenprofilen, sondern geht viel mehr ganzheitliche Konzepte. Was aber nicht heißt, dass es keinen praktischen Wert im Sinne einer direkten Umsetzung hat.

wenn man den englischem mächtig ist, erklärt einem das Buch alles was man für einen erfolgreichen start in die gartensaison wissen muss.pflanzennamen waren für mich manchmal schwer nachzuvollziehen, im text stehen sie nur auf englisch, aber die tabellen enthalten auch botanische namen.

Dieses Buch ist sehr informativ, wenn man Englisch versteht. Für ein von einem Amerikaner geschriebenes Buch enthält es erstaunlich viele Informationen. Angeblich geht es hier auch um kleinere Stadtgärten, aber auch hier geht der Autor von ca. 1000 qm aus, was ich bisher eher selten in einem städtischen Vorort erlebt habe. Auch scheint er die Möglichkeit platzsparender Säulenbäume nicht wirklich einzubeziehen.Trotzdem sind die Informationen wirklich sehr hilfreich und bieten einen guten Überblick über die Möglichkeiten der Permakultur. Ich halte es für besser als viele andere Bücher zu diesem Thema. Auf Deutsch begeistert mich gerade Permakultur für Einsteiger von Andrew Mikolajski
